Why Kadıköy Became Istanbul's Tattoo Capital
Kadıköy is one of Istanbul's most cosmopolitan and artistic neighbourhoods. Stretching from the Moda coastline to Bağdat Avenue, from the streets of Yeldeğirmeni to Moda Square, this area has always been favoured by creative people. And over the past decade, it has become the centre of tattoo art in Istanbul.
Why Kadıköy?
There are several reasons. First, prices: more affordable rents compared to the European side made it easier for young artists to open studios. Second, demographics: Kadıköy's young, open-minded, arts-inclined population has a clientele that embraces tattooing as cultural expression. Third, artist networks — quality artists attracted each other, and the neighbourhood became a hub.
Opening to the International Stage
In recent years, Kadıköy-based tattoo artists have started appearing at international festivals. Artists from Europe and Asia come to Istanbul for guest sessions. This two-way exchange has made Istanbul's tattoo scene visible on a global scale.
Ink People and Kadıköy
Ink People was founded in Erenköy — one of Kadıköy's inner neighbourhoods. Our studio is proud to be part of this creative ecosystem. Our artists both carry the spirit of this neighbourhood and continue to shape it.
Kadıköy as an Artist
The neighbourhood is not just for studios — it's a place where artists find inspiration. Moda's sea view, walls adorned with street art, the diverse café culture — all of these nourish creative energy. Some artists say their best designs formed in their minds while walking the streets of this neighbourhood.
