Travelling to Istanbul for a Tattoo: The Complete Planning Guide
Istanbul is one of the rare cities that attracts thousands of foreign visitors every year specifically to get tattooed. Behind this are both internationally calibre artists and a relative price advantage. So how do you plan this trip?
Start at Least 6–8 Weeks in Advance
The appointment lists of good artists in Istanbul fill up quickly. Once you've set your travel dates, get in touch immediately. Write via Instagram DM or WhatsApp with your reference images. Early contact makes securing an appointment easier and allows time for the design process.
How Many Sessions Are Needed?
Small and medium-sized tattoos are usually completed in a single session. Larger pieces (sleeve, back, leg) may require more than one session. In that case, planning two visits or coming for an extended Istanbul holiday may make sense. Your artist will inform you in advance.
Tattoo Day Logistics
Our studio is in Kadıköy — on Istanbul's Asian side. Getting there from the European side: bridge or tunnel buses, the Marmaray, or the ferry. The ferry journey is particularly enjoyable — about 20–25 minutes with Bosphorus views. If you're driving, paid parking is available around Erenköy.
Combine Istanbul with Your Tattoo
Set aside a few days before or after your tattoo session to explore Istanbul. Kadıköy market, the Moda coastal walk, a Bosphorus boat tour — the city has much to complement a tattoo trip. We remind you to stay out of the sun and avoid swimming the day after your session.
Budget Planning
Prices for quality tattoos in Istanbul are generally more accessible than Western Europe, though internationally awarded artists command prices closer to European standards. Even with travel costs factored in, Istanbul is extremely advantageous in terms of quality-to-price ratio. Ask us about deposit requirements and our cancellation policy in advance.
