Istanbul Tattoo Tourism: A Practical Guide for International Visitors

istanbulrehberilk dövme

In recent years, Istanbul has been drawing visitors not only for its history and cuisine but also for its world-class tattoo artists. With European-standard quality, relatively accessible prices, and the chance to explore the city, flying in for a tattoo has become an appealing plan for many. This guide offers a practical roadmap for those visiting for the first time with this goal in mind.

Planning Before You Arrive

The most important rule is to reach out early. Quality artists are booked weeks in advance. As soon as you set your flight dates, message us on Instagram or WhatsApp with your reference images. Be clear about the size, placement, and style you want. Most studios ask for a small deposit to confirm the appointment.

Language and Communication

A tattoo is a process where conveying your idea correctly really matters. Working with an English-speaking artist prevents misunderstandings. At Ink People, all artists communicate in English, so you can discuss the design comfortably. Bringing visual references also removes most of the language barrier.

Practical Logistics

  • Age and ID: You must be at least 18 to get tattooed; carry a valid ID or passport with you.
  • Payment: Ask about payment methods in advance. Cash is always accepted; confirm whether cards are taken.
  • Getting there: Our studio is in Kadıköy, on the Asian side. From the European side, the Marmaray or the ferry will get you there easily.
  • Time planning: Larger pieces may need more than one session; extend your trip accordingly.

Safety and Hygiene

No matter which country you come from, sterilisation standards should be the same everywhere: single-use needles, autoclave-sterilised equipment, and gloves throughout the session. Before choosing a studio, look at the artist's healed tattoo photos; fresh work always looks good, but the healed result reveals true quality.

Healing While Travelling

Healing on the road is what tourists overlook most. For the first two weeks, stay out of pools and the sea, and plan your beach days before the tattoo, not after. Pack an unscented moisturiser (under 100 ml, cabin-friendly) and moisturise more often during flights. Ask your artist about second-skin film; it protects the tattoo for 3 to 5 days and makes travel much easier.

If you are thinking of coming to Istanbul for a tattoo, let us build the plan together. Message us on Instagram (@lnkpeople) or WhatsApp (+90 554 840 61 12), and we will arrange both the right artist and a suitable date.
